Software Testing

What is Manual Testing?

Manual Testing is a software testing process where a tester checks an application manually without using automation scripts or automation tools. A tester uses the application like a real user, checks different scenarios, compares the actual result with the expected result, and reports any defects found. For example, while testing a Login page, the tester enters the username and password manually, clicks the Login button, and checks whether the user is successfully logged in.

unit-testing

Unit Testing is a type of software testing where individual and small parts (units) of an application are tested separately to check whether they work correctly. Unit Testing means testing one small piece of code at a time, such as a method, function, or class, to make sure it gives the expected result.

integration-testing

Integration Testing checks whether different parts of an application work properly together. For example, in an online shopping application, the Cart, Payment, Order, and Database may be different parts of the system. When a user places an order, these parts need to communicate correctly. Simple Example: Add product to cart → Make payment → Create order Integration Testing checks whether the information moves correctly between these parts.

Sanity Testing is focused on a particular change or bug fix. For example, suppose the Login button was not working because of a bug. The developer fixes it. The tester now checks the Login functionality again to make sure the fix is working correctly. Sanity Testing is usually smaller and more focused than Regression Testing. Simple Example: Bug found → Developer fixes bug → Tester checks the affected functionality → Continue testing.

Exploratory Testing

Exploratory Testing gives testers the freedom to explore the application and find unexpected problems. The tester does not always follow a fixed list of test cases. Instead, they use their experience and try different ways of using the application.

API Testing

API stands for Application Programming Interface. An API is a way that allows two different software applications or systems to communicate with each other and exchange data. API acts like a bridge between two applications. One application sends a request, and the other application processes it and sends back a response.

What Do We Test in Unit Testing?

Unit Testing can be used to test many small parts of an application. 1. Business Logic Check whether business calculations and rules work correctly. Example: Calculate discount correctly. 2. Calculations Check mathematical calculations. Example: Total price, tax, discount, salary calculation. 3. Conditions Check if, else, and other conditions. Example: User is allowed to place an order only when the cart contains a product. 4. Data Validation Check whether input data is handled correctly. Example: Email validation. 5. Error Handling Check what happens when something goes wrong. Example: What happens when an invalid value is provided? 6. Boundary Values Check values around limits.
